Our Curriculum

Nurturing Curious Minds, Confident Learners and Happy Children

At JoyKids International Preschool, we believe the early years lay the foundation for how children learn, think, communicate and relate to the world around them.

The JoyKids Early Years Programme is our signature curriculum for children from Pre-Nursery to Preschool, thoughtfully designed to support the development of the whole child.

Our programme brings together Integrated Thematic Learning and Montessori-inspired learning experiences, complemented by purposeful play, inquiry, creativity and developmentally appropriate academic learning.

Rather than focusing only on what children need to know, we help children develop how to learn, encouraging them to explore, ask questions, make connections, solve problems, communicate their ideas and become increasingly independent.

Our goal is simple: to nurture children who are happy, curious, confident and ready for their next stage of learning.

Our Learning Approach

Three connected ways of learning that work together across every day at JoyKids.

Integrated Thematic Learning

Different areas of the curriculum connect through meaningful themes children can see, experience and relate to, which makes learning engaging and memorable.

Young children understand the world by making connections.

Through Integrated Thematic Learning, different areas of the curriculum are connected through meaningful themes that children can see, experience and relate to.

A theme about “Our Amazing World,” for example, could involve reading stories and developing new vocabulary, counting and sorting natural objects, investigating plants and animals, exploring different cultures, creating artwork and discussing how we can care for our environment.

Through one meaningful theme, children experience language, mathematics, science, creativity, social understanding and inquiry as interconnected areas of learning rather than isolated subjects.

This makes learning more engaging, relevant and memorable.

Montessori-Inspired Learning

Hands-on materials and purposeful activities that encourage independence, concentration, coordination and responsibility.

The JoyKids Early Years Programme also incorporates Montessori-inspired principles and hands-on learning experiences that encourage independence, concentration, coordination and responsibility.

Children learn through purposeful activities and carefully selected materials that allow them to touch, manipulate, practise, experiment and discover for themselves.

Montessori-inspired experiences are incorporated across areas such as:

  • Practical Life: developing independence, coordination and everyday life skills
  • Sensorial Learning: exploring colour, shape, size, texture, sound and patterns
  • Language & Literacy: developing vocabulary, phonological awareness, reading and early writing
  • Mathematics: building understanding of numbers, quantities, sequencing and mathematical relationships through concrete experiences
  • Culture & Discovery: exploring science, nature, geography, people and the wider world

As children progress, they are encouraged to make choices, complete tasks with increasing independence and take greater responsibility for their own learning.

Learning Through Play, Inquiry & Discovery

Play is built into the curriculum to develop language, imagination, creativity, problem-solving, collaboration and social-emotional skills.

Play is one of the most powerful ways young children learn.

At JoyKids, play is not separate from learning. It is intentionally incorporated into the curriculum to develop language, imagination, creativity, problem-solving, collaboration and social-emotional skills.

Children are encouraged to ask questions:

  • Why does this happen?
  • What happens if I try this?
  • How can we solve this problem?
  • What else can we discover?

Our teachers guide these moments of curiosity into meaningful learning experiences.

Children therefore become active participants in learning, rather than simply receiving information.

Our Key Areas of Learning

The JoyKids Early Years Programme provides a balanced foundation across key areas of early childhood development.

Language, Literacy & Communication

Children develop confidence in listening, speaking, phonics, early reading and writing through stories, conversations, songs, presentations, role play and purposeful literacy experiences. Our English-rich environment encourages children to communicate naturally and express their ideas with confidence.

Mathematics & Logical Thinking

Children explore numbers, quantities, patterns, shapes, measurement, sequencing and problem-solving using concrete materials and real-life experiences before progressing towards more abstract mathematical thinking.

Understanding the World

Children investigate science, nature, people, communities, cultures, technology and the environment through observation, experimentation and inquiry.

Creative Arts & Expression

Art, music, movement, drama, design and imaginative play give children opportunities to express ideas, develop creativity and discover their individual interests and talents.

Physical Development & Wellbeing

Movement, outdoor play and physical activities develop children’s gross and fine motor skills, coordination, balance, strength and awareness of healthy living.

Personal, Social & Emotional Development

Children learn to understand emotions, build friendships, cooperate, communicate their needs, resolve challenges and develop resilience, confidence and independence.

Practical Life & Independence

Everyday activities encourage children to care for themselves, their belongings, their classroom and the people around them. These experiences help develop concentration, responsibility, organisation and self-confidence.

Learning That Grows with Your Child

The JoyKids Early Years Programme evolves as children grow.

Pre-Nursery

Explore & Discover

The early stages focus on security, communication, sensory exploration, movement, routines and relationships.

Children learn through play, songs, stories, movement and hands-on experiences while gradually developing confidence and independence.

Nursery

Connect & Develop

As children become more confident, learning expands into language, early literacy and numeracy, practical life, creativity, inquiry and social development.

Children begin making stronger connections between ideas while developing concentration and increasingly independent learning habits.

Preschool

Think & Thrive

During the Preschool years, children progress towards greater literacy, numeracy, inquiry, critical thinking, communication, independence and school readiness.

Learning experiences become increasingly sophisticated, encouraging children to investigate ideas, explain their thinking, solve problems and work collaboratively with others.

Developing Future-Ready Learners

Education today needs to prepare children for a world that will continue to change. For this reason, the JoyKids Early Years Programme develops more than academic knowledge. Throughout their learning journey, children are encouraged to develop:

Curiosity

Wanting to know and discover more.

Communication

Expressing ideas and listening to others.

Critical Thinking

Questioning, reasoning and making connections.

Creativity

Imagining and exploring new possibilities.

Collaboration

Learning and working positively with others.

Independence

Becoming confident and responsible learners.

Problem-Solving

Approaching challenges with persistence.

Adaptability

Becoming comfortable with new experiences and ideas.

Empathy & Respect

Understanding and caring for others.

These capabilities help children become confident learners not only for Primary School, but for life.

Teachers as Partners in Learning

Our educators play an important role in bringing the JoyKids Early Years Programme to life.

Teachers carefully observe each child’s interests, strengths and developmental needs and provide an appropriate balance of teacher-guided learning, independent exploration, purposeful play and collaborative experiences.

Children are encouraged to try, make mistakes, reflect and try again.

Because every child develops differently, our approach recognises individual progress rather than expecting every child to learn in exactly the same way or at exactly the same pace.

Preparing for the Next Educational Journey

The JoyKids Early Years Programme builds strong foundations for children progressing into Primary School and international education environments.

Our emphasis on inquiry, communication, conceptual understanding, collaboration and independence also prepares children well for educational approaches they may encounter later, including the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP).

Through JoyKids’ connection with GrowBright International School, families can also explore a continuing educational pathway beyond the preschool years.

The transition is not simply about being academically ready. It is about helping children become confident enough to participate, curious enough to question, independent enough to take responsibility and enthusiastic enough to keep learning.

The JoyKids Early Years Programme brings together:

Integrated Thematic Learning

Montessori-Inspired Experiences
